It could be either Free Roam or Fixed Area, your choice.

Now that I have fought the whole boss on Fixed Mode, I can say this:
IT'S HARD!
Make sure to use the sol diffuser.
And also, I would recommend using the Attacker ship.
(This area is striked out until someone can prove to me that typing this was not a waste of time.)

Although it could be because I just am not used to these type of bosses. Let's see what the others have to say about this boss.
