I'll just trash a few ideas in here.

Cross Lance
One of my Ideas for a boss.
The boss itself relies on multiple cores. Each Core represents a different form.
Each Form represents a different way of battling the boss itself, as in: Different trick to defeat each and every form
If all the Cores were to be destroyed, One more would appear.
That is when The final form would kick in.

Undenified
That I thought of long ago.
The boss would look like a sphere, but lowers down to being a triangle as it loses it's health.
The outer design is what I didn't think of.
That sphere was supposed to be surrounded by physical parts for the outer design.
The Sphere (or something close to it) would be made of Energy Walls.

I'll post some more if I get to remember.
